Brian Smart, P.Eng.
President

 

 

Mr. Smart has 40 years of expertise in the field of petroleum reservoir engineering, with focus on enhanced oil recovery implementation and surveillance, formation evaluation, regulatory and reserves management. Brian received his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1982 from the University of Waterloo, his P.Eng. from APEGA in 1987 and has been a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers since April 1990. He is fluently bilingual in English and French.

 

The first 13 years of Brian’s career were spent with Exxon Corporation affiliates in Alberta (’82-’86), the Northwest Territories (’87-’90) and Bordeaux, France (’90-’94). He then joined forces with Earl Hickok in 1995 for the next eight years until 2003 at Advantage Energy Services Ltd in Calgary as Chief Engineer, providing consulting services to a wide range of clients primarily in North America and the Asia-Pacific regions. The most rewarding experiences during this time were from 1999-2001 in a leadership role creating Best Practices for Reservoir Engineering Surveillance Technology under a million-dollar contract with Unocal Corporation.

 

The introduction of AESL’s Integrated Field Review (IFR) process identified 35,000 boed of enhancement opportunities to bolster Unocal‘s financial performance leading to their acquisition by ChevronTexaco Corporation in 2005.

 

In 2003, Mr. Smart became Exploitation Manager at Argo Energy Ltd and took on his first executive role in 2005 as VP Exploitation at Sequoia Oil & Gas Trust

 

After the sale of Sequoia to Daylight Energy in 2006, Brian held the executive portfolio of Vice-President, Reservoir Engineering with Daylight (2006-07), TUSK Energy Corporation (2007-09) and Marble Point Energy Ltd. (2009-10). For the last ten years Brian has been helping clients unlock value in their oil & gas portfolios with the help of our AESL Business Operating System processes, like the IFR.
